We are an easy days drive from the French ports or just an hours drive from the airports of either Poitiers or Limoges.
Set in the beautiful Charentaise countryside and surrounded by farm and woodland, there are plenty of lovely walks and cycle rides direct from the property. 10 minutes away at Chasseneuil, a traditional market town, you will find all the local amenities such as supermarkets, banks, a pharmacy and some lovely cafés.
If you are planning lots of cycling and bike activities we suggest that you hire bikes and have them delivered to the property for your stay. For those who are in search of some great French food, there are numerous restaurants in the area with the closest being only 10 minutes away. There are restaurants to suit all tastes with everything from a pizza take away, through the traditional French cuisine to the stunning Grange aux Oies at Chateau Neuil (grange-aux-oies.com/version_anglaise.php) for those romantic or special occasion evenings. And for those who want to cook their own family meals, there are several markets on various days in the surrounding towns.
Chasseneuil sur BonnieureShould you wish to explore the local area though, we are within easy reach (3 miles) of Chasseneuil sur Bonnieure, a traditional French market town, where there is a small market every Wednesday and Saturday. Enjoy the delicious local produce at the boulangerie-patisserie and charcuterie, or just sit and have a coffee whilst watching the world go by in the shadow of the 14th century Church.
La Rochefoucauld is a charming old town with some great shops and restaurants, one of which is at the foot of the gorgeous chateau overlooking the river. A great attraction for the whole family is Vallée des Singes (Monkey World), a fantastic park with over 300 monkeys living in the trees above you as you walk around. There is a petting zoo, an adventure play area and even a place to stop and have a meal or just a coffee whilst the children play. (la-vallee-des-singes.fr/)
Angouleme is just 20 minutes away and is a beautiful university city(angouleme-tourisme.co.uk/). Set at the top of a hill and surrounded by ancient ramparts, the city offers great shopping and has some of the best restaurants in the Charente, not to mention the numerous cafes which allow you time to just sit and watch the world go by. Angouleme is also host to an exciting weekend in September with a Vintage Street Car Racing around the ramparts (circuit-des-remparts.com/).
You have the choice of coastal beaches at Royan and La Rochelle (under 2 hrs away) or some great lake beaches (that are closer to the house) most of which offer water sports. There is also canoeing at Mansle, Ruffec and Montbron.
